Temporary lane restrictions along Queens road in Martintar, Nadi
Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) would like to advise members of the public that there will be temporary lane restrictions along Queens Road in Martintar, Nadi today at 12pm to midnight.
The traffic restrictions is required to allow Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) to carry out some vital emergency repairs to a five-metre section of storm water sewer pipe that collapsed over the last week opposite Mount St Marys School.
FRA Programme Manager for the Nadi and Suva Road Upgrading Project (NASRUP) Zaina Khan said Queens Road will remain open at all times but it will be reduced down to a single lane.
The single lane will be for traffic travelling towards Nadi town alongside Cawa Road and traffic travelling towards Nadi Airport and Lautoka will be diverted through Cawa Road.
She said there will be a no parking restriction on Cawa Road from midday to 6pm to maintain two-way traffic flow.
The relocation, repair and upgrade of critical infrastructure assets in the road corridor is an area in which FRA and its contractors work closely with utility service providers.
Ms Khan said these emergency repairs are going to be carried out by WAF in coordination with the contractor, Higgins.
The lane restrictions are in place to allow sufficient working area and protect both the WAF and Higgins teams who will be working on a very tight schedule to complete their works by midnight.
She said these emergency repairs are being started on Saturday to allow extra time on Sunday for any poor weather conditions or unforeseen technical issues to be resolved.
It is anticipated that this will avoid disruption to the public during the Monday morning peak.
As soon as WAF have completed their repairs Higgins will reinstate the affected part of Queens Road so that normal traffic flows can resume as soon as possible.
Ms Zaina said the road surfacing at this location will be completed later in the week as part of regular road upgrade operations which will not cause lane restrictions along Queens Road and therefore have a minimal effect on traffic.
At the same time there are also some planned Fiji Electricity Authority relocation works being carried out nearby as part of the four-lane road upgrade.
She said power will be re-routed through the FEA network to minimise disruptions and avoid any shutdown over the weekend.
Motorists driving through Martintar are warned to allow extra travelling time on Saturday whilst the lane restrictions are in place, slow down as indicated by the temporary traffic signs and follow the instructions of on-site traffic personnel.
