FRA continues to clear out debris

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) continues to be active in clearing the leftover debris along with the routine maintenance works.

This is after the road infrastructure sustained significant damage due to Tropical Cyclone Winston and more recently Tropical Cyclone Zena.

Fiji Roads Authority  Maintenance Works Manager Mr. Aram Goes says their contractors have been working hard to ensure all remedial works are completed as soon as practical.

Following the flooding from TC Zena all affected crossings were repaired within three days of the flood waters receding.

Mr. Goes said the estimated cost for the damage in the Northern Division resulting from TC Winston is $35,300,000.

Costs of damage from TC Zena are still being assessed and may be as much as $50,000 for the Northern Division.

Mr. Goes said at the moment the maintenance contractor is assisting in removing trees from the damaged oil filling point at Nasawana Village in Bua.

We have also provided a notice to Fulton Hogan Hiways to remove and clear trees at Namulomulo Village in Nabouwalu.

Mr. Goes said FRA will also make the necessary assessment on the existing culvert at Nawaido and bring about a solution to address the flooding situation experienced by the village during heavy downpours.

We will clear and realign the waterway and upgrade drainage systems on both upstream and downstream ends of the culvert.

Mr. Goes said they will also replace all disjointed culverts and construct a new stone mortar headwall on the downstream end to avoid future scouring undermining the support of the culvert.
