Evacuees move out of evacuation centers in Labasa, classes to resume

The 307 evacuees that took shelter in four evacuation centers in Labasa yesterday have moved out of the center.

This was confirmed by the National Disaster Management Director, Mr. Akapusi Tuifagalele.

Director Tuifagalele said the water level in Labasa has receded and the evacuees have moved from the evacuation centers.

Yesterday there were four evacuation centers, they have all gone home as classes will start today.

Government officials in the Northern Division have been mobilised in the flood affected areas to assess and monitor the situation.

Director National Disaster Management, Mr Akapusi Tuifagalele said that the heavy rainfall experienced in the Northern Division from yesterday has caused flooding, especially in the Labasa area.

A total of 4 evacuation centres is now active in Labasa, providing shelter to 307 evacuees whose homes got flooded.

In Khalsa College, 95 evacuees, Nacula Hall, 62 evacuees, Holy Family, 57 evacuees and at the Naodamu Hall, 93 evacuees.

People in the North, especially in Labasa, have been advised to take extra precaution and parents have been urged to monitor their children’s movements.
